Just because an interview for new media jobs has finished it does not mean that your work is done.

At the end of an interview it is always wise to express your interest in the available position but be wary of jumping the gun and asking for the job outright but you should enquire about what the next steps in the recruitment process are.

If you want to get in touch with your interviewers after the process is completed, ask them for their business cards as this will have all the appropriate contact details and it will stop you from misspelling their name.

Try and focus on the good parts of the interview and any effective answers you may have provided as there is no point dwelling on negative issues as there is little you can do about it once you have left the room.

As soon as you get home, it is crucial to put into practice a well-planned follow-up strategy as this is something that not all job seekers do and this can provide you with a good advantage against your competitors.

Planning is key at this stage as a strategy without structure will appear haphazard and your disorganisation may count against you in the recruitment process when the interviewers are weighing up the pros and cons of all candidates.

Some like to write thank you letters to their interviewers as a way to express their enthusiasm for the position and this should be done within 24 hours so you are still fresh in their minds.

Interviewers may appreciate a thank you letter even if you are not a good fit for the position in question but they may consider you for another role within the company once it becomes available.

If you choose to write a thank you letter, you should try to include why you think you are qualified for the position but it is important not to come across as desperate as this is likely to dissuade an interviewer from employing you.

After an interview, it is appropriate to alert any references that you may have included on your curriculum vitae as your potential employers may feel the need to contact them if it is a close call between yourself and other candidates.

Remember to brief your references about what you said in the interview as they may be asked to corroborate your answers and you may lose the opportunity of employment if they contradict you.
